Behind the Scenes, A Tasteful South Bay!

Introduction:

I recently had the opportunity to be on set of a fashion editorial shoot with some of the South Bays leading creatives in fashion. Partnering with Content Magazine and West Valley College located in Saratoga in the Silicon Valley. Meeting such wonderful people and the stuff we talked about was inspiring.

The Conversation On Set

Arriving to a beautiful studio with great creative space getting into the grove of the scene. Staying patient to observe the hidden stories amongst the people who are expressing their own story without hesitation. Exploring the equipment and asking questions to start conversation.

The head photographer, Mark was so fantastic to work with. He brings such great vibes and a profound knowledge in figuring out the best way to photograph a model.

"Maintain neutral energy"

He was talking to me and another photo assistant named Miles about how to maintain a neutral mindset to not influence the model but to allow the model to shine through the images. Capturing authentic model expression that was created from building a photographer to model conversation that doesn't use words but uses mindfulness.

Triggers

Mark mentioned the word triggers in which he was referring to certain postures the model feels most comfortable doing. By finding the model's triggers the model can then express emotion that is correspondent to the overall feeling of the shoot. Because we can't forget that this is a collaboration.

These tips are great for a photographer who wants insight as to capturing the best looks the model can give. Being a photographer myself sometimes a technique we are used to using doesn't always work the best. So it's up to us to figure out what does. So thank you Mark for sharing such a mind capturing point for me to use on my next shoots.

Where is the fashion opportunities in the South Bay?

I loved being part of this shoot especially because the fashion arts isn't widely talked about amongst South Bay residents.

Where are all my fashion people at?

Talking to the hair stylist on set named Ivo, we adventured into the realm of creative job opportunities in the South Bay. How the Silicon Valley isn't always the best place to find fashion related job posts. Which is what enables the fashion community here to invent a distinct South Bay look. Paving our own paths to showcase the importance of fashion work in a busy metropolitan area.

Conclusion:

While being on set I was able to have rejuvenating conversations from people with the same mindset as me. Please comment below as to what you think about the images and if you're a photographer, thoughts on techniques you use to get the best from your model. And comment if you live in the South Bay or in an area where fashion isn't talked about in the way you wish it was your thoughts on what you're doing to get the dialogue of style going amongst people in your neighborhood. Can't wait to hear from you.
