The Creative Process And...Your Ego?

I recently went to a social event in San Jose, the base of Silicon Valley called Flow. It was put together by the amazing Content Magazine team held at Adobe world headquarters. The discussion here was “The Creative Process”. A panel of artists sat down to discuss their unique process. In this discussion what the creative process is and why the creative process is important were a few topics they tapped into.

As an artist in the San Francisco Bay Area I have had to develop my own form of creative process. What I have grown into as a creative is that I need to be around people. I am inspired by people and get most of my ideas from being involved and sharing energy flow with others around me. Getting inspired is the first step for me towards creating my art. I am a visual artist and thinker. When I am digesting a concept I naturally visualize colors, pictures, scenarios, lighting, and people. I imagine a whole new world in which I expand and grow. Next I make it into a reality and this reality is the art piece. This sounds all dandy and fun, but this is not the case, at least not all the time. But this part of who I am is so important not just to me but for my work and purpose as to why I was put on this solar spaceship to begin with.

The importance of the creative process kind of has something to do with ego. Our ego enables us to be seperate from our true selves in order for us to recognize our true self. Plugging that into our creative mind and the process we experience enables us to recognize a part of ourselves that some artist would consider their true self. Authenticity is important to me because I feel most content and happy when I am being 100% true to me and the people around me. Artistic expression is the truest form of self. It is an expression of an emotion that outlines our subconscious mind. Therefore the creative process leads us to our true self and with that allows us to create realities to bring the communities we live in forward into the future.

Think about your creative process and what rituals, habits, or random acts you take to get to your end goals. This doesn’t even have to be just in art. People have the ability to be creative in any situation they encounter. Use your divine right to be creative and develop your creative process to be that much closer to your true self.
